History of Beit Immanuel

Beit Immanuel is one of Israel’s long-established Messianic Jewish congregations. Our community is committed to the restoration of the people of Israel, reconciliation between Jews and Arabs, and sharing the hope we have found in Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah.

Our story is connected with the work of the London Society for Promoting Christianity Amongst the Jews (LJS), an Anglican organization founded in Britain in 1809 and known today as CMJ. During the nineteenth century, its workers established ministries among the Jewish population in the Land of Israel, particularly in Jerusalem and Jaffa, combining the proclamation of faith in Jesus with education and practical service. The building that is now Beit Immanuel later came into CMJ’s care and served, among other purposes, as a school for girls.

During the 1960s and 1970s, a new generation of Jewish believers in Yeshua began to emerge in Israel, alongside Arab believers and others who became part of a growing local movement. In the 1970s, Beit Immanuel became an important meeting place and one of the focal points of the developing Israeli Messianic movement.

Over the following decades, the congregation helped nurture leaders who went on to serve in Messianic ministries throughout Israel and contributed to the establishment of new congregations in the Greater Tel Aviv area. Today, Beit Immanuel continues to serve the local community and remains an active part of the wider Messianic body in Israel and internationally.
